"Preparing our pupils for the digital world; unlocking their potential"

Intent
At St Columba’s Primary School, we aim to prepare our learners for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for an ever-changing digital world. Technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal part in students’ lives. Therefore, we want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely whilst preparing our children for society and future job roles that are yet to have even been imagined.

Children have access to a range of digital media and devices to enhance their ability to utilise technology; these include laptops, iPads, Interactive Smartboards and Chromebooks. By exposing our children to a wide range of technologies, we can begin to address social inequalities and narrow the gaps for our disadvantaged children.

Children are taught to appreciate the benefits of technology but equally the limitations so that they do not become over reliant on its use. Through the creative use of our computing provision, we aim to break down the barriers faced by children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), EAL and disadvantaged children to allow them to fully participate in the Digital world.

National Online safety day 7th February 2023

This week all the children have been taking part in safer internet week. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of Internet safety, promoting positive and responsible usage. It is a chance to think about any worries we might have about using technology and the internet, but it’s also about celebrating all the fantastic things technology can help us with. The theme of the week was ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online’ so the children were challenged to talk about: their favourite things to do online, tips, tricks and any issues or problems they may face online.
